Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for a student, who is not an Ohio resident, to be eligible for the reduced non-Ohio-resident fee?

To be eligible for the reduced non-Ohio-resident fee, a student must be admitted into an approved fully online degree or certificate program and enrolled in the fully online courses associated with that approved fully online degree or certificate program.

What is the reduced non-Ohio-resident fee for approved fully online degree and certificate programs?

The reduced non-Ohio-resident fee, for approved fully online degree and certificate programs, is: $10 per credit hour. So, the formula for determining cost per credit hour would be: In-state (Ohio resident) tuition + $10 per credit hour non-Ohio-resident fee + $15 per credit hour DL fee.

The student will no longer be eligible for the reduced non-Ohio-resident fee.

What happens if the non-Ohio-resident student enrolls in one or more face-to-face courses?

The student will no longer be eligible for the reduced non-Ohio-resident fee.

What if I want to take only one online course and not a full degree program?

For individual online courses, please refer to the tuition rates posted on the Bursar’s website.

What is the tuition guarantee plan?

Beginning with the fall 2018 academic year, Kent State began to offer all eligible new first-year and transfer undergraduate students the certainty that the Ohio resident tuition rate (i.e., instructional and general fee) career services fee, as well as room and board plan charges, would not increase for their applicable cohort rate. Participation in the program is required for all new first-year degree-seeking undergraduate and eligible transfer students enrolling at Kent State for the first time in the fall semester of 2018 or later.

Additional information about tuition guarantee rates can be found on our FAQ page.
