Kent State University’s online Event Management Certificate provides students with the skills to plan, execute, and evaluate successful events across industries. Covering areas like logistics, marketing, and budgeting, this program prepares graduates for roles in corporate, nonprofit, and hospitality sectors. Whether planning large conferences, community events, or private gatherings, students will gain the expertise needed to manage events from start to finish.

Event Management Undergraduate Certificate Program Overview

The Event Management undergraduate certificate prepares students with the introductory and practical skills they need to enter the event management workforce. The curriculum incorporates the newest technologies and emerging trends in the industry. Program faculty are experts in their fields and have decades of experience applying the skills they teach in the classroom.

Graduates are prepared with skill sets that allow them to secure exciting positions with leading employers at hotels, wineries, private clubs, casinos, sporting events, meetings, trade shows, cruise lines and restaurants; or to be self-employed as an event planner.

Students can apply all courses in the certificate toward the Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Event Management.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Identify and apply the knowledge and skills necessary for hospitality and tourism operations
  2. Develop and integrate a core set of business skills necessary to successfully operate a hospitality and tourism organization
  3. Demonstrate competence in the communication skills necessary for hospitality and tourism management

Event Management Undergraduate Certificate Program Admissions Requirements

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago.

Kent State campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, and the Twinsburg Academic Center, have open enrollment admission for students who hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

1The $335.57 per-credit-hour tuition rate for LOWER division courses and $393.35 for UPPER division courses applies to part-time Ohio resident undergraduate students taking fewer than 12 credit hours per semester. This certificate was calculated at 15 credits at lower division ($5,033.55) and 5 credits at upper division ($1,966.75) as an average. The flat-rate semester fee of $3,692.65 for LOWER division courses and $4,327.54 for UPPER division courses applies to full-time Ohio resident undergraduate students taking between 12-18 credit hours per semester.

2The $345.57 per-credit-hour tuition rate for LOWER division courses and $403.35 for UPPER division courses applies to part-time non-Ohio resident undergraduate students enrolled in a fully online degree program and taking fewer than 12 credit hours per semester, PLUS a $10 surcharge per credit hour of actual credits taken (between 12-18 semester credits or $120-$180). This certificate was calculated at 15 credits at lower division plus the $10 surcharge ($5,033.55) and 5 credits at upper division plus the surcharge ($1,966.75) as an average.

An additional Distance Learning fee for all students enrolled in a distance learning course is $15 per credit hour. Program tuition and costs are estimated and subject to change.
