Student Spotlight: Shanae T.

1. Could you please share a short background about yourself?

I am currently in the Ohio Air National Guard as a guardsman. I work in an administrative field in a maintenance management company. I recently returned from my first deployment overseas and currently reside in Youngstown, Ohio, about 45 minutes away from Kent.

2. How is your experience in the program so far?

I have had the best experience in the online Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management program thus far. Over the course of these two years in the program, I have learned so much that will help me to be the best public health professional I can be. The fact that I have had amazing professors who are passionate about their work, very understanding and helpful has guided my success in the program.

3. What has been your favorite part of the program? Do you have a favorite course?

My favorite part of the program has been the versatility. Being an online student has allowed me the flexibility to complete coursework around my busy schedule.

I enjoyed every course that I took, but my favorite was Biostatistics in Public Health. Even though biostatistics is not my concentration, I learned so much in this course that I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

4. What made you choose to study online for your Master of Public Health?

I chose to go online for my MPH for several reasons. Not only does Kent State have an accredited program, it was also one of the most affordable online MPH programs in Ohio. The online program offered me the luxury of being a full-time student while working and being a member of the military. The online program had many perks that appealed to me.

5. Would you recommend this program?

I would highly recommend this program for anyone who would like the flexibility of an online program as well as for those who would like to further their careers in the healthcare field.

6. What are your career plans after you graduate with your master’s degree?

Once I graduate with my master’s degree, I plan on working in the administrative field at a local hospital.
