The Ohio Music Education Association’s (OMEA) Professional Development Conference was earlier this month and music educators from all over the state traveled to Columbus for this three-day conference. OMEA is the third largest Music Education Association conference in the nation with over 8,000 total in attendance.
Kent State University’s Glauser School of Music was proudly represented with four poster presentations by Music Education Ph.D. students, eight presentations, and a performance from our Kent Percussion Ensemble.
The eight presentations were:

- Intercollegiate Jazz Ensemble with Bobby Selvaggio
- Deep Dive into the 2022 Music Standards: 9-12 by David Thompson
- The Culture and Technology of Hip Hop by Brian Laasko
- Culturally Responsive Music Education: Possible, Practical, and Prudent by Rachael Fleischaker
The doctoral students who presented research posters were Brian Laakso, Lisa Heinrich, Jacob Gibson, and Martin Ryan. The Glauser School of Music also hosted an Alumni and Friends Reception with over 100 attendees.
Students from the Online Master of Music in Music Education program stopped by the School’s booth in the exhibit hall to meet faculty and their academic advisor. It was wonderful to connect with current students and alumni as well as make new connections and friends.
