This degree now has six concentrations, including athletic training, cultural foundations, curriculum & instruction, educational technology, special education, and introducing the newest concentration, leadership in educational contexts. The new Ed.D. leadership concentration provides education in multidisciplinary perspectives on leadership throughout various educational contexts.

The program prepares leaders who can construct and apply knowledge to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families, organizations, and communities. Students apply their learning to their organizations and professional practice to analyze problems and use multiple frames to develop meaningful solutions.

Leadership in Educational Context Concentration

The leadership in educational contexts concentration prepares students to lead positive change through their work as ethical and social justice-oriented scholarly practitioners.

Concentration coursework focuses on advanced leadership theories and skills and sociocultural contexts of education organizations and systems. This concentration is appropriate for leaders and emerging leaders in higher education, PK-12 schooling, and other organizations where non-formal, informal, and/or formal education occurs. The program assists these leaders in advancement and their fields through growing knowledge and skill in leadership.

This concentration seeks to engage students in working across roles interprofessionally to solve complex problems of practice. This sets Kent State’s Ed.D. program apart from other Ed.D. programs.
