Military Friendly, Wherever You Are: Supporting Military-Connected Students at Kent State Online

A group of people in suits and uniforms stand together at an event, smiling and applauding while one person holds a framed certificate; a large screen behind them shows a graphic of a uniformed figure.

For active-duty service members, veterans, and military-connected students, pursuing a degree can come with considerations that other students may not face. Relocations, deployments, work schedules and family responsibilities can all influence when — and where — continuing your education is possible.

Online education can provide another option.

Through Kent State Online, students can pursue a Kent State education without living near the Kent Campus, while still having access to university resources designed to support military-connected students throughout their educational journey.

A Longstanding Commitment to Military-Connected Students

Kent State University was recently recognized with the Seven Seals Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a national organization that promotes cooperation and understanding between military service members and their employers.

The Seven Seals Award recognizes significant organizational achievement, initiatives or support that advance ESGR’s mission. The award was presented to Kent State President Todd Diacon during the Center for Adult and Veteran Services Open House in August 2026.

The recognition adds to Kent State’s longstanding commitment to serving veterans, service members and their families.

For 17 consecutive years, Kent State has earned the Military Friendly® School designation. The Kent Campus has also earned a Gold ranking for three consecutive years and holds the Collegiate Purple Star designation from the state of Ohio for its efforts to support students with military backgrounds.

A Kent State Education That Can Go With You

For military-connected students, flexibility isn’t simply a convenience. It can be an important part of making a college education possible.

Kent State Online gives students the opportunity to pursue fully online degree and certificate programs from wherever they are, making it possible to continue working toward educational and career goals without being tied to a physical campus.

Whether you’re balancing military service, a career, family responsibilities or a combination of all three, online learning provides the flexibility to fit education into a life that may already have plenty of competing priorities.

And studying online doesn’t mean navigating Kent State alone.

Support Beyond the Online Classroom

Kent State’s Center for Adult and Veteran Services (CAVS) serves as a central resource for military-connected students and their families.

The center helps students navigate university and community resources and provides support related to educational benefits, academic advising, accessibility, career and employment resources, and other needs that can arise throughout the college experience.

Military-connected students can also find guidance related to VA educational benefits, the GI Bill®, Federal Tuition Assistance, and other available resources.

Students who have completed military training may also be able to receive academic credit for applicable experience by submitting a Joint Services Transcript for evaluation.

Several of Kent State’s broader student resources are also available to online students, including academic support, career resources, and technology assistance.

The goal is simple: Being an online student shouldn’t mean being on your own.

Finding the Right Online Program

Military experience can build skills in leadership, communication, technology, problem-solving, and decision-making. Continuing your education can provide an opportunity to build on that experience and prepare for what’s next — whether that means advancing within your current field, preparing for a civilian career or exploring an entirely new direction.

Kent State offers fully online undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates across a variety of fields, allowing students to find an educational path that aligns with their experience, interests, and future goals.

And because the program is online, your connection to Kent State doesn’t have to depend on your proximity to Kent, Ohio.
