Kent State University is proud to announce that it has been awarded a second grant from the Teach CS initiative, part of Ohio’s statewide effort to address the growing shortage of computer science educators. This grant will support Kent State’s ongoing efforts to train and certify computer science teachers, ensuring that schools across Ohio have the qualified instructors they need to meet the demands of today’s tech-driven educational landscape.

The Kent State University’s Alternative Licensure Professional Development Institute (ALPDI) program is intended for teachers holding an Alternative License. ALPDI provides ODHE-approved coursework leading to eligibility to advance to an Ohio 5-year Professional License.

Elizabeth “Lisa” Testa is an associate professor in the School of Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Studies at Kent State University. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate coursework on teaching and learning, as well as English education and literacy courses. She works closely with many local K-12 partners, providing opportunities for pre-service teachers to gain clinical field experiences in secondary schools. Her research interests include studying teacher education and pre-service teachers’ conceptions of teaching writing.

He is an Associate Professor in the Evaluation and Measurement program within the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University. He is also the program coordinator for the online Master of Education degree in Research, Measurement, and Statistics.

Dr. Astrid N. Sambolín Morales is an Assistant Professor in Kent State Online’s 100% Online Master of Education degree in Cultural Foundations. She received her PhD in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity from the University of Colorado Boulder and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research provides a more nuanced picture of the agency, resistance, and empowerment enacted by displaced Puerto Rican m(others) in the U.S., and her work was funded by several grants, including the University of Colorado Natural Hazards Center, the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education, the URBAN Research Network, and the NAEd Spencer Foundation.
