Students in Kent State’s Online Master of Music in Music Education Program Publishing Works in New Kent State Curriculum Series

Exciting news from Kent State University’s School of Music!

The Music Education Department is partnering with F-Flat books to offer a series of innovative curricula written by students in the Master of Music in Music Education program (MMME). The publications in this series are edited versions of the capstone projects created by students in the MMME program.

The entire Music Education faculty has worked as a collaborative editorial team to bring this project to fruition.

Jay Dorfman, associate professor and coordinator of the music education program at Kent State University, said, “The students in our Master of Music in Music Education program do amazing, inspiring work. We have a responsibility to share it with others. The intention of this project is to make available curricula that will be immediately helpful for school music teachers. We look forward to seeing our students’ ideas implemented in great music classrooms across the country and beyond.”

Kent State Curriculum Series

The first publication in this exciting new series, titled Kent State Curriculum Series, is by Alecia Hanold. Her publication is titled, “An Introductory Music Theory Curriculum for High School Students: A Constructive Learning Course.” Her project is an entire music theory curriculum for the secondary level grounded in a constructivist approach.
