What is Environment Management?

Environment management, in its most basic sense, is “the management of human impacts on the environment.”2

The process of environmental management involves:3

  • Identifying the environmental desired outcomes
  • Identifying the physical, economic, social, cultural, political, and technological constraints on obtaining these outcomes
  • Considering the most feasible options for achieving the desired outcomes
  • Anticipating, avoiding, and solving environmental and conservation issues

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of environmental engineering technicians is projected grow 7 percent from 2019 to 20294 and environmental science and protection technicians is projected to grow 8 percent from 2019 to 2029, both faster than the average for all occupations.5

Kent State University Associate of Technical Study in Environment Management

The Associate of Technical Study degree in Environment Management at Kent State University is a completer program and open to anyone who has completed a green industry apprenticeship or journeyman training program.

Graduates of the program are prepared to work as administrative and supervisory personnel in a variety of arboriculture, urban forestry, and landscape management settings.
