Program Overview

The Master of Digital Sciences (MDS) degree is a professional master’s program for graduates from a wide range of backgrounds that is designed to augment the student's skill set and open the door to new career opportunities.

Students in the Master of Digital Sciences program receive a broad foundational knowledge in digital technologies through a guided choice of concentrations and approved electives.  

Concentrations: The MDS degree comprises the following online concentrations:

Data Science

The Data Science concentration focuses on the data analysis and modeling needed by an organization and the processing of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data using statistical and semantic analysis techniques to meet those needs.

Digital Systems Training Technology

The Digital Systems Training Technology concentration focuses on the educational applications needed by an organization and the design and management of instructional systems to meet those needs.

Enterprise Architecture

The Enterprise Architecture concentration focuses on the business goals, processes and technology infrastructure needed by an organization and the alignment of the processes and infrastructure with the goals of the business.

Program Structure

  • 32 minimum total credit hours
  • Students choosing to complete thesis must be enrolled in Thesis I for 6 credit hours, and then continuously enroll in Thesis II until all degree requirements have been met
  • Requests for consideration of other courses as approved electives or transfer coursework should be submitted to the student's advisor in the School of Digital Sciences for review
  • Up to 3 credit hours of Internship in Digital Sciences may be applied toward the M.D.S. degree

Courses

Courses for the online MDS include both a broad survey of contemporary technologies and digital skills and targeted training in the specific applications of each student’s chosen concentration. Core subject areas for the program include algorithms and programming, enterprise architecture, data science, instructional design, business management, and network management and design technology. All students take 6-8 credit hours of electives on specific technology-focused topics and 9-10 credit hours in their chosen concentration, and they also complete either a capstone project or thesis as a 6-credit culminating requirement.
